About Us
Derek Stenner set up the practice in 1989, and it has expanded steadily over the years. In 1999 we moved to new larger premises in Hounds Road, Chipping Sodbury, which is just off the High Street.
Unlike the larger firms, our office is not divided up into many different specialist areas, but instead each member of staff deals with their own portfolio of clients. In this way, the same person deals with the accounts preparation, be it sole trader, partnership or company, and then goes on to prepare the taxation computations, and related tax returns and any other necessary service as necessary. If required, they would also complete VAT returns and usually operate the payroll.
In this way, you, the client, have one point of contact, which provides you with a personal service. In addition, Derek oversees and is always kept aware of individual clients' affairs.
Derek Stenner BA ACA
Derek originally trained and qualified as a chartered accountant with a medium sized firm based in Taunton, and shortly after qualification left Taunton's sunny climes for life in the city of Bristol with Price Waterhouse (now PWC LLP). After spending a few years based in the tax department obtaining "big firm" experience, he decided in 1989 that enough was enough, and it was time to become his own boss. He hasn't looked back since and would probably now find it difficult to work for anyone else!
He now divides his time between work, walking the dog, playing tennis and ferrying his two teenage daughters around for their various social and sporting engagements
Alison Gilkes BA ATTM
Alison joined us in 1994 after working for a medium sized company in the middle of Bristol for several years, where she qualified as a member of the Association of Tax Technicians. Until very recently Alison was a keen hockey player, playing for Yate Ladies First and Second teams for many years, until injury took its toll and forced her to slow down...a bit. She now enjoys driving anything sporty, dog-walking and weekends away from it all in the countryside.
Christine Smith MA ACA CTA
Christine qualified as a Chartered Accountant with a top 5 practice and more recently in 2004 she qualified with the Institute of Taxation. Prior to joining us in 2004, Christine was a tax manager with a medium sized firm of accountants in Bristol, where she gained valuable tax experience.
Maureen Stenner BSc ACA CTA
Maureen took her tax exams with Price Waterhouse in Bristol, before joining a small firm in order to gain more experience in dealing with smaller enterprises, where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant. She now deals with all aspects of small limited companies and sole traders. When not at work, Maureen can be found playing badminton and tennis, and searching out decent coffee shops with her friends.
Tracy Trevelyan MAAT
Tracy originally trained with a firm of chartered accountants in the depths of Cornwall, before moving up to the big city of Bristol when she joined us in 1991. She deals with all aspects of small limited companies, sole traders and partnerships. Any spare time she has is spent doing "keep fit" including body combat, (very good for stress relief, she says) and looking after her family.
Lyn Ovens
Lyn joined us back in 1990 and since then has spent many happy hours running around after us all and keeping the office ticking over. If in doubt over anything office-wise, (and usually other-wise as well), Lyn will always be there to help out. When not in the office making us all coffee etc, Lyn can be found organising her latest holiday or running around after her family. With all that running around, she must be quite tired out at the end of the day!
